Impressionistic Abstract Landscapes
Minnesota

Life, Landscape, Layers, Abstract, Texture, Color. I strive to speak to emotions through my landscapes, so others may see the beauty and feel the awe I experience as I look out over the land that has been such a big part of my life. Growing up on a farm in the midwest has given me may memories to draw from as I push the paint over the canvas. Texture and layers of color come together to form hills, trees, sky and earth in abstract shapes. The viewer has more opportunity to experience something personal when the scene has less detail, like filling in the blanks.

Earthy colors are my favorite and work their way into all my paintings. I use a limited palette and mix the colors on the canvas for the most part. I like this method, as is gives the scene more depth when the colors are not overmixed. Acrylic is my medium of choice. It dries faster than oil and I don't have as much chance to overwork the colors, which is a habit of mine. I use heavy bodied acrylics to work the texture into the paintings and protect each painting with a clear gel medium.

I would welcome any comments on my work as I am continually trying to put more emotion into my art. Thank you for taking the time to look.
